Christmas Stuff

Christmas season is always a fun one at our house. We try to load it up with as many fun and spiritual activities as possible. We of course decorate the tree with Paige and Ashley as great little helpers. Meaning, they put all the ornaments on the bottom of the tree and for Ashley, all on the same branch!

We went to Salt Lake City with my sister's family and my mom and hit temple square lights and visitor's center. My kids (okay, and us) spent alot of time around the Salt Lake temple replica which shows exactly what it looks like along with the explanation of each of the rooms. Then it was off to our hotels for a little sleep. The next morning, we headed to the pool for a little swim. Call me a pool snob, but I definitely prefer our pool where we can change the temperature to our convenience. Let's just say we swam more in the hot tub than the pool! After lunch at the yummy Red Iguana, we headed to the festival of trees. We thought the kids would love it. Instead they whined and complained. They did like the "tatoo" stickers and the wands but that's about it. Then to Ogden for the lights downtown. This year we rode the trolley around the block while my poor mom froze waiting for us. Then we mosied down the street for some dinner at 5 guys burgers. Yummy but too expensive to go there for a basic hamburger. It was such a fun weekend spent with my family!!

The next weekend was Scott's extended family party. We met downtown at the lights (I know, again). This time we rode the mini train in circles which the kids loved!! The family running the train were so nice to me since I only had money for the kids to ride, they let me ride it for free so I could sit with them. They got me a little stool to sit on and they I joked about my weight and if it really was such a good idea to ride. Then off to a dance hall for some donuts and hot chocolate. We ended the night with white elephant exchange. Always great to get together with the Roberts clan!!
Scott and I were really lucky to get tickets to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir concert with Jane Seymore. We went with my amazing friend, Maren and her husband, Matt. We stopped at the delicious Olive Garden for dinner where we laughed and caught up on our crazy lives. Then down to the concert where traffic and parking were crazy. Scott luckily found a spot and we settled in for the evening of entertainment. We really enjoyed it and I'll never listen to the song, Good King Wenceslas, again.
There were our individual work Christmas parties and all sorts of yummy food. And we can't forget our annual University Friend party that we hold every year. Each year gets crazier in trying to organize our schedules but we did it and how fun it was to catch up and laugh til all our bladders leak. There are now 18 kids between all of us. Pictures hopefully to come soon.
Last but not least, Christmas. We decided to ask Santa Claus to come a day early since we were going to Logan for Christmas and didn't want to transfer all of our stuff. Paige and Ashley tore down the wrapping paper covering the opening to the living room and then we headed in. Lots of fun stuff for Christmas this year including all the princess dolls (to share - yeah right) and cameras so they won't "break" mom's. Scott got a gun, which he had already known about thanks to some text messages he read. Scott blew me away with the dress I've been eyeing for months and season tickets to the Hale theatre (my favorite). We had such a great time and the kids, of course, were in heaven. Then it was off to Logan for some Christmas goodness there. We had our soup and potato bar which is always super scrumptious.

And then as we were cleaning up dishes, Scott walks into the kitchen with the worst look on his face and delivering the worse news we could ever hear. Because of the sensitivity of the subject, we are keeping it private. Needless to say, devestating. While Scott was on the phone trying to find out more information, I was unloading everything from my car and giving instructions to my amazing sisters and mother on how to take care of the kids. Scott and I were out the door in 10 minutes on our way back to Ogden. We spent Christmas Eve, Christmas and the day after Christmas in the ICU waiting room waiting to hear if a member of Scott's family would survive and if he would be healthy and normal. It was the worst weekend of our lives while Scott gained 50 years to his life. One thing learned from this was that our Faith has increased, the atonement is real, and our Savior knows us and loves us more than we can ever imagine! Sometimes the best place to spend Christmas is in the hospital being reminded of the true gift of Christmas and the extent to which it reaches. As an epilogue, everyone is okay. And there is much healing taking place in our family!!! A super special thanks to my amazing family who basically took the kids without a thought and plowed their way through making a special Christmas for the kids when we couldn't be there. Thanks to a special Santa who made a last minute run to the 711 for treats and pillow pets so the girls would have something to open on Christmas along with the cutest letter from Santa ever. Thanks for buckling Ashley into her carseat even if the carseat wasn't buckled into the car. And a special thanks for helping get Brett sleeping until at least 7. We'll have you watch the kids more frequently.
